The first two photographs on this page were taken in the 1990s at an official occasion at the Woodlesford bowling club attended by Labour councillor Rose Lund who served as the Lord Mayor Leeds in 1986. She is pictured here posing on the green to the right of Sharon Harriman. The group of five ladies standing on the path by the side of the green are, from left to right: Kathy Walsh, Kathy Coleman, Mary Cockerham, Ivy Clarke (Sharon’s mum), and Betty Holmes. Behind them in the football shirt is Tony Harriman and next to him is his sister-in-law Lynn Clarke. The two men next to them in the background are Johnnie Wilkinson and Harold Walsh. The man with the cap and walking stick is Dennis Hirst. Behind him is Bill Blair.Included in this group with Rose Lund are club members Peter and Margaret Holleran, Dennis Hirst, Sharon Harriman, Harold Walsh, Alf Hartshorne, Ernest Anderson, Tom Holmes, Bill Blair and Gary Dennsion (kneeling on the green at the right.) Also there are several local councillors including Brian Walker who was the leader of Leeds council between 1996 and 2003. In the background is the Drill Hall which opened in May 1938. It was the base of the 186th Anti Aircraft Battery of the 66th Leeds Rifles which were part of the Territorial Army. The building was also used for dances and badminton matches and for 9 years from 1970 it was used as a clothing factory and training centre by Hepworth’s, the Leeds based tailoring firm. Cup winners day in September 1987. On the left next to the photographer is Harry Green. The man with the grey jacket is Dennis Hirst. Charlie Binks is next to Harold Booth in the red pullover. The Old Man Trophy, modelled on Sir Walter Raleigh playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe, is in the centre of the table,.The Rayner Cup is on the left. Both trophies originated at the Oulton bowling club.
