Born 1864 at Mossley in Lancashire. Qualified as a doctor at Edinburgh in 1886. Married Lucy Ockleston from Ormskirk in 1890. She died 1911.
Living at Helston in Cornwall in 1891.

THE PANEL DOCTOR’S FEE.

Sir, – The communication from your medical correspondent is calculated to give a false impression of the panel doctor’s position. Nothing is said about expenses, so that it appears the amount in question is net income. This is very far from case, since the cost of working may amount to as much as 50 per cent, of the total. A practice with 3.000 insured persons and the corresponding private work would require an assistant in addition to the principal – £500 a year; also an unqualified man to act as dispenser, book-keeper, surgery attendan – say £200. Travelling would require two cars and a motor man – £300 to £500. according to tho nature of the country. Then there would be rent and rates of surgery promises; lighting, heating, cleaning, and attendance. In fact, the total expenses (excluding drugs and dressings, which are only required for the private patients) would be not less than £1,300.
