Expresses

A Leeds bound express, pulled by a Royal Scot class locomotive, passes Waterloo sidings signal box. The photo was taken by signalman Bill Tiffany in the early 1960s. The chimney in the background was at Hulse’s mill.
The Thames-Clyde Express passing through Woodlesford on a sunny afternoon in the mid-1960s. The train left London St. Pancras at 09.50 and was timed to arrive in Leeds about 14.45. With the headcode 1S68 it’s hauled here by a Derby built Sulzer Type 4 diesel-electric locomotive. The locos were known to trainspotters as “Peaks” as the first ten in the class were named after mountains in England and Wales.
